Emilio Ambron

In the late 1930s Bali became an attractive destination
romanticized by painters, photographers and writers.

Born in Rome the 17 November 1905, Emilio Ambron settled
his studio in Bali in 1938 and since, his passion for this island
has brought him back there during the years 1968, 1974 and
1994. During all these visits Emilio had always expressed his
strong dedication for Balinese culture and Balinese models
through his paintings and his drawings.

Selected Works

Ambron had his first solo exhibition in 1922 at the Italian Club in Alexandria where
he enjoyed a great success. During his long life, he exhibited in Rome, Florence,
Venice, Paris, Bologna, Jakarta and Bali.

The artist is represented in the collection of numerous museums in Europe and in
Indonesia . In Bali in 1996 the town of Klungkung established a Museum to
commemorate the life of this famous Italian artist.

Besides painting, the artist has written his diary from his own Balinese experiences
which was published in 2005.
