Bondan Suryaning Tias

Bondan’s Optimism

While most Indonesian people are in a big worry about what
will happen in this general election campaign period, House of
Sampoerna brings optimism by running a painting exhibition
featuring 60 works of Bondan Suryaning Tias from 24 March 2004
until mid of May at the Art Gallery at House of Sampoerna.

Selected Works

Bondan, a young talented artist, expresses happiness and optimism of ordinary
people on bright color in a realistic and caricature way. With the same spirit,
House of Sampoerna, Surabaya’s new icon, brings this optimism to the society
by running “The Eyes of Java” painting exhibition.

Most of Bondan’s works express the recherché celebration of ancestral Javanese
traditions with subtle humor, but always with sympathy and compassion. They
are expressing the charm and the easygoing life in the island.

Bondan is chosen not only because of his achievement both in Indonesia and
abroad but more on his uniqueness of his way to see the world. The positive
energy that is absorbed and expressed onto canvas is very tempting.

Born in Yogyakarta on 7 August 1968, Bondan studied at The Academy of Fine Arts
(ISI) in Yogyakarta (1989-1994). Bondan participated in numerous group exhibitions
in Indonesia and abroad and has received several awards for his works.

This exhibition was held on 24 March 2004 - 15 May 2004
