“Kao Xo” , The Highest Achievement,
Ipphing’s Firm Determination
Firm determination to be the best at the top. That was the theme
reflected by the painting and calligraphy exhibition by Ipphing,
an artist who started his career as a painter at the age of 20.
His works radiate the spirit of freedom of creation, free from any
constraints.

Born in Tulungagung in 1946, he finished his education at Surabaya Academy of Arts,
and started his career under the guidance of Doho Senjoyo. Within the period of 1971
and 1980 he took part in numerous overseas and domestic exhibitions. Then he quit
painting, until sometime in 2004 old memories and longing urged him to make a come
back to the painting world, a world where he can express whatever he experiences in his
life into artistic creations rich of colors and freedom.
Combining oil paint, acrylic paint, water color and pastel, Ipphing started making strokes
on his canvass, depicting the mysterious sides of human life, rituals and religious rites.
Daringly breaching calligraphy standard patterns, he displays a harmonious blend of
religion and calligraphy in his artistic works. He adds to this a touch of pluralism, which
obviously is aimed to inspire and motivate his fans.
The exhibition was held on 07 October 2006 - 05 November 2006.
