| This is a piece of Indonesian traditional painting art that dates back
to the 19th century. The paintings are illustrations from a book
handwritten in ancient Javanese style. It depicts the first part of
Ramayana epic (the adventure of Sri Rama), which is commonly
called Serat Lokapala in Javanese.
In this part Sri Rama has not made his appearance; nevertheless,
because this story is part of Ramayana epic we decided to entitle it
”Rama Sungging”. It contains stories of Cupu Manik Astagina,
Sastra Jendra, Rahwana’s searching for Widowati and Arjuna
Sasrabahu. |
